But the abacus in something near to its present form have been used for several hundred and perhaps as many as 2000 years. In fact they are still used in some parts of the world and in the hands of a trained user can be faster than a calculator.
A computer is a tool for making computation, storage and manipulation incredibly fast, but it is only a tool. Just like an abacus, almost anyone can learn to use it in just a few minutes, but just like an abacus, there is a world of difference in what can be accomplished by an ingenious and trained user. A computer is just an electric abacus.
